Topre Realforce 87U

Switches:

Topre 35 gram, Topre 45 gram, Topre 55 gram, Topre Silent

About:

The Topre Realforce 87U uses either a mix of 35-45 gram Topre switches or 55 gram Topre switches all around. The 87U comes in white where as the 87UB comes in black. This Topre keyboard actually is not a good fit for mac users (see additional comments). Some users reported getting keys that would get stuck after a few months (but the warranty is still there). Only has 1 actual DIP functionality, switching the caps and control key which is compounded by the keyboard being non programmable. Key-caps wobble a bit. A silent versions exists. Some users complained that the lettering on the black version is hard to see.

Pros:

  • Silent version
  • Spherical key-caps
  • Topre switches

Cons:

  • All Topre Realforce series keyboards have a plastic cas
  • key-caps wobble
  • Not good for Apple users
  • Only has 1 actual DIP functionality.
  • some users reported getting keys that would get stuck after a few months

Additional Comments:

  • All of Topre keyboards have a nice 2 year warranty by Seasonic in the USA
  • Here's what Topre means when they say their keyboards feature “variable weight” switches: keys that are supposed to be pressed with the pinkie/ring fingers, such as ‘1’, ‘Q’, ‘A’ and ‘Z’ on the left and ‘9’, ‘O’, ‘L’, ‘.’ on the right, require less force to actuate than the keys in-between. This is advertised as being a more ergonomic design intended to allow longer typing sessions without fatigue.
  • If Used with a Mac, you cannot wake your computer up by pressing a key. If you do, the keyboard will not work, until you put the computer into sleep mode again or unplug and re-plug the keyboard's USB connector.
  • The key puller that comes with Topre keyboards is bad, it may scratch the keys, get a different one
